State Biodiversity Board Identifies 32 Historic Trees, Launches App for Public Participation in Conservation Efforts;

Bihar State Biodiversity Board (BSBB) has taken the initiative to identify and preserve trees of long life and historical importance in the state. Under this campaign, 1,500 special trees have been selected from 15 thousand trees from different districts, out of which 32 trees have been declared 'heritage trees' so far.
11 special species of trees have been identified
11 special species of trees have been identified in 4 districts of Bihar - Munger, Bhagalpur, Jamui and Buxar. These include trees like Peepal, Pakkad, Banyan, Neem, Kanak Champa, Tamarind, Semal and Mahua. Photos showing the quality and characteristics of these trees have also been collected.
32 trees included as heritage trees
The special thing is that detailed articles related to these trees are being prepared, which will describe their historical, geographical and environmental importance. Mihir Jha, Deputy Director of Bihar State Biodiversity Board, said that so far 32 trees from four districts of the state have been included as 'heritage trees'. Their maximum age has been estimated to be 150 years. Also, an app has also been developed to find out and preserve these trees.
BSBB can also be informed with the app
Through this app, common people or public representatives can upload pictures of specific trees of their district, locality, panchayat, block etc. with GPS location. Along with this, he said that along with the app, inform BSBB about it and the board will include them in the list of heritage trees after physical verification if the information is correct.
Formal declaration of heritage trees will be made
Under this project, formal declaration of "heritage trees" of the state will be made. Along with this, a detailed booklet will also be published, so that the general public can be made aware of the importance of these trees and the need for conservation.
This initiative will not only help in protecting biodiversity but will also play an important role in maintaining ecological balance, tackling climate change and protecting traditional trees. This joint initiative of the government and environmentalists will give a new direction to biodiversity conservation in the future
