A one-day orientation program on "Management of assets in drinking water supply system and piped drinking water management system" was organized for executive engineers at Chanakya Hotel, Patna today under the joint aegis of Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Bihar and Water Aid. In this program, detailed discussion was held on the latest standard IS 18182:2023 prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which is helpful in increasing the efficiency, durability and effectiveness of water supply systems.

The program was inaugurated by Shri Pankaj Kumar, Principal Secretary, Public Health Engineering Department. In his address, he called upon all the executive engineers to manage the assets in the drinking water supply system as per the prescribed standards, so that the life of those assets increases and the water supply system remains strong. He also advised that the knowledge gained in this workshop should be effectively disseminated to all areas, as well as ensure that the sensors related to "Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal" also fully comply with these standards. The department regularly ensures that all standards are being followed.

It is known that IS 18182:2023 provides a holistic approach to the management of assets, making the operation of water supply systems more efficient and effective. This standard focuses on proper maintenance of infrastructure, proper use of resources and ensuring quality of service. Its aim is to strengthen the long-term sustainability and reliability of water supply systems.

Principal Secretary, Mr. Pankaj Kumar (Public Health Engineering Department), Chief Engineer, Mr. Nityanand Prasad, State Program Director (Bihar WaterAid India), Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha and Director and Head of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Patna Branch, Mr. Suman Kumar Gupta were present in the one-day workshop. Also, all the executive engineers of the Public Health Engineering Department participated as participants. Technical support in the program was provided by BIS.
