India Bans Radical Group Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Declares it a Terrorist Organization
Union Home Ministry Cites Threat to National Security, Accuses Group of Radicalizing Youth and Promoting Terrorism
The Union Home Ministry of the Government of India has banned the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir, declaring it a terrorist organization. On Thursday, the Home Ministry banned Hizb-ut-Tahrir and put this organization on the list of dangerous terrorist groups. The government has described the organization as a threat to India's democratic system and a serious threat to internal security. Giving information about this on the social platform, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, 'The organization is involved in various acts of terror, including radicalizing naive youth to join terrorist organizations and raising funds for terrorist activities.'
He further wrote, 'This organization poses a serious threat to the national security and sovereignty of India. The Modi government is committed to securing India by dealing strictly with terrorist forces. In a notification, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) accused it of promoting terrorism by using social media platforms, secure apps and organizing meetings to encourage naive youth to engage in terrorist acts.

The Home Ministry said, 'Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) is an organization whose objective is to establish an Islamic state and caliphate globally, including in India, by overthrowing democratically elected governments through jihad and terrorist activities by involving the citizens of the country, which is a serious threat to the democratic system and internal security of the country. ' On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a key accused in the Tamil Nadu-based Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) case related to spreading dissent and separatism by 'promoting the ideology of an anti-India organization' in Puducherry.
What is Hizb-ut-Tahrir?
Founded in Jerusalem in 1953, Hizb-ut-Tahrir is a global pan-Islamic group. The group is headquartered in Lebanon and operates in at least more than 30 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia. HuT has a history of praising and celebrating attacks against Israel and Jews more broadly. Several countries have banned HuT for its subversive activities. Countries that have already banned the group include Germany, Egypt, the UK, and several Central Asian and Arab countries.
