North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited has taken an important decision in the interest of consumers. While amending the dues deduction procedure, it has been decided to reconnect the electricity of those consumers whose electricity was disconnected due to non-recharge of smart meters and high outstanding amount.

This decision will be beneficial for the consumers of Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, East Champaran and West Champaran districts, where M/s Secure Limited is working as a smart metering installation agency. In these districts, about 2.17 lakh consumers had their electricity disconnected due to non-recharge of smart meters and high outstanding amount.

NBPDCL is committed to ensure the convenience of consumers. Taking a step in this direction, the affected consumers will be provided Virtual Credit, which will enable restoration of their power supply. Also, the dues deduction procedure has been revised—earlier this deduction was done in 300 days, but now a maximum of 25% of the average assessment of the last three months will be deducted per month, which is in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Power.

This process has already been implemented in areas where smart meters have been installed after October 2024. However, since smart meters were installed in the first phase in the above five districts, 300 days of arrears deduction facility was given. But it was observed that despite getting such a long period, many consumers were not able to recharge their smart meters.

Since these consumers were not previously given the facility of deduction of maximum 25% per month of the average assessment of the last three months, it has been decided to provide them this additional benefit now, so that they can use the power supply smoothly.

This revised process will significantly reduce the amount of daily arrears deduction, which will make payment management easier for consumers and their power supply will not be disrupted.

All affected consumers will be informed about this decision through SMS and call centers.

The Managing Director of NBPDCL has appealed to the consumers that this new arrears deduction process will provide great relief to the consumers. Now the daily deduction amount will be much less than before, which will make it easier to maintain power supply. All consumers should recharge their smart meters as soon as possible and avail the benefit of uninterrupted power supply.
