The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has given the Union Home Ministry four weeks to decide on the issue of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's citizenship. The Home Ministry had requested eight weeks to submit a report on Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship, but the High Court rejected the request and granted only four weeks.

The next hearing in this case is scheduled for April 21. Let us tell you that for the last several years, questions have been raised about the citizenship of Rahul Gandhi and it has been a topic of discussion among the people.

The petition was filed based on the claim that Rahul Gandhi is a citizen of India as well as Britain, so he is ineligible to contest elections under Article 84 (A) of the Constitution. Therefore, his membership in Parliament should be cancelled.

In fact, on July 1, 2024, Karnataka lawyer and BJP member S Vignesh Shishir filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court. In this, he also alleged that Rahul Gandhi had British citizenship. The petitioner had made this allegation citing a confidential mail of the British government of 2022. Vignesh Shishir had sought cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship under Section 9(2) of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955.

In this petition, a request has been made to cancel Rahul's election from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat this year due to alleged concealment of his British citizenship. The petitioner has argued that he has all the documents and some emails of the British government which prove that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen and due to this he is ineligible to contest elections in India. Therefore, he cannot hold the post of Lok Sabha member.

Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi won the election from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in 2024. Earlier he has been winning elections from Amethi Lok Sabha seat. However, in the 2019 elections, Rahul Gandhi lost the election from Amethi.
