Bihar Strengthens Water Quality Testing with NABL-Certified Laboratories
15 District Labs Accredited, Ensuring Safe Drinking Water Under 'Har Ghar Nal Jal' Scheme;

There are 115 water testing laboratories in the state to test the quality of pure drinking water provided through the Bihar government's 'Har Ghar Nal Jal' scheme. Every kind of quality of water can be tested in these laboratories. Out of these, 15 district level water testing laboratories have received a certificate from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).
Laboratories of 15 districts have been certified
Among the 15 districts of Bihar whose water testing laboratories have received the NABL certificate, the water testing laboratories of Bhagalpur, Ara, Sasaram, Banka, Gaya, Saharsa, Chapra, Muzaffarpur, Munger, Bihar Sharif, Purnia, Patna, Begusarai, Sheikhpura and Araria have received the NABL certificate. At the same time, the evaluation of laboratories of Buxar, Jehanabad and Arwal districts is going on, while the process of certifying the remaining laboratories is also going on.
Water testing on 16 parameters
It is worth noting that the quality of water is tested on 16 prescribed parameters in certified laboratories. Testing is done on many parameters in the state level Chhajjubaag laboratory located in Patna, the capital of Bihar, 38 district level and 76 sub-divisional laboratories. These include pH level, TDS, conductivity, turbidity, total hardness, total alkalinity, chloride, sulphate, calcium, magnesium, iron, fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, manganese and total bacteria.
Benefits of NABL Certificate
NABL Certificate is issued by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Under this, laboratories are recognized as per international standards. It is worth noting that in the financial year 2023-24, the quality of water was tested in 1 lakh 46 thousand 487 water sources, 34 thousand 379 schools and 44 thousand 052 Anganwadi centers.

Soon the process of getting NABL certificate for water testing laboratories of other districts will also be completed, so that every citizen can get pure and safe drinking water
