Bihar Launches Statewide Vaccination Drive to Prevent Classical Swine Fever
Over 2.3 lakh pigs to be vaccinated free of cost in 10 days; livestock owners urged to participate for disease prevention and economic security.;

Director of Animal Husbandry Department, Mr. Navdeep Shukla said that a special vaccination campaign is being run in the state to prevent classical swine fever. A target has been set to vaccinate 2,32,160 pigs in 10 days. This vaccination is being done completely free of cost in all the districts of the state. Under the campaign, the vaccination process is going on daily from 8 am to 4 pm. This vaccine is being administered only to pigs older than 3 months. He appealed to the livestock owners to contact the Animal Husbandry Directorate for any kind of problem or information.

A special vaccination campaign has been started by the Animal Husbandry Department of the state to prevent classical swine fever, a fatal disease in pigs. This campaign is being conducted simultaneously in all 38 districts of the state. Arrangements for free vaccination have been made in every village and ward of all the districts. The time for vaccination has been fixed from 8 am to 4 pm every day. Under this campaign, all pigs above 3 months of age are being vaccinated.
The Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Bihar has issued necessary guidelines to all the district animal husbandry officers so that the vaccination campaign can be conducted effectively. The Directorate of Animal Husbandry has appealed to the livestock owners to take full advantage of this program and keep their pigs safe from serious diseases like classical swine fever. The Directorate of Animal Husbandry has also appealed to all public representatives and local bodies to cooperate in making this campaign successful, so that no eligible pig is left out of vaccination and the spread of classical swine fever in the state can be completely stopped.
What is Classical Swine Fever
Classical Swine Fever is a deadly disease caused by a virus, which mainly affects pigs. This disease is not harmful to humans and does not spread to other domestic animals, but causes high mortality in pigs. This disease can cause huge economic losses to the pig farming business.
A special vaccination campaign is being run to prevent this disease under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Program of the Central Government. The government aims to completely eradicate classical swine fever by the year 2030.
