Supreme Court Stays Delhi High Court’s Defamation Case Ruling Against Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi

The Supreme Court has stayed the action of the lower court in a defamation case against Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi CM Atishi. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the complainant BJP leader Rajiv Babbar. Kejriwal and Atishi had challenged the decision of the Delhi High Court in the Supreme Court in the defamation case related to the statement of removing the name of the Agarwal community from the voting list.

The lower court had issued summons to Kejriwal and Atishi and ordered them to appear. Against which a petition was filed by Kejriwal and Atishi in the Delhi High Court. Along with this, a demand was made to cancel the case. Which the Delhi High Court refused to cancel. The court had ordered Kejriwal, Atishi and others to appear before the trial court.

On Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal fiercely targeted the BJP-led central government in an election rally in Haryana and claimed that he was put in jail so that the work started by him could be stopped and he could be proven dishonest. The former Delhi Chief Minister was addressing a rally to garner support for AAP candidate Satish Yadav in Rewari, Haryana. Voting is to be held here on October 5.

Kejriwal was released from Delhi's Tihar Jail on September 13. He got bail from the Supreme Court in the case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related to the alleged excise policy scam in the national capital. He remained in jail for about five months.

Addressing the rally, Kejriwal said that his government has built 'excellent' schools and hospitals in Delhi, and about one lakh elderly people have been sent on pilgrimage for free. He said, 'Modiji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) feels that he (Kejriwal) is doing a lot of work. He first won (elections) in Delhi, then in Punjab and now he will win in Haryana and Gujarat. Stop him, stop his work, prove him dishonest. And then he put me in jail.'
