Secretary, Agriculture Department, Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal today met progressive farmer Shri Uma Shankar Singh, resident of Laxman Nagar, Muzaffarpur district, at Krishi Bhawan, Patna. During this, he appreciated the innovative achievements of Shri Singh related to farming and assured all possible cooperation from the department.

Farmers are liking sweet and baby corn farming

Shri Uma Shankar Singh, who cultivates about 10 acres of land, has started cultivating banana, turmeric, sweet corn and baby corn crops, moving away from traditional farming. He is getting better income from these efforts and has become an inspiration for other farmers of the area.

On this occasion, Secretary Agriculture Shri Agarwal said that encouraging such farmers is the priority of the department. Diversification in agriculture and moving towards value-added crops is possible to increase the income of farmers significantly. Farmers like Shri Uma Shankar are taking the agricultural scenario of the state in a positive direction.

Sweet corn and baby corn cultivation will be encouraged

The Agriculture Secretary said that under various schemes of the department, subsidy up to 75 percent will be provided for the cultivation of high value crops. Currently, the seed subsidy rate for the summer season is 50 percent or Rs 500 per kg for baby corn and 50 percent or Rs 1500 per kg for sweet corn. Farmers in various districts are getting attracted towards these crops. In view of the increasing interest of farmers, the department is emphasizing on technical guidance, training and market linking for these crops.

Shri Agarwal said that promoting crop diversification in the state and motivating farmers towards value-added agriculture is among the priorities of the department. This will not only increase the income of farmers, but will also give strength to stability and innovation in the agricultural sector. The Agriculture Department will continue to encourage such innovations in the future and will continue to connect farmers with advanced agricultural techniques.
