In a bid to enhance the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and ensure seamless movement at Toll Plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative. This measure aims to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle.
NHAI is also urging FASTag users to complete the 'Know Your Customer' (KYC) process for their latest FASTag, aligning with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC will face deactivation or blacklisting by banks after the deadline of January 31, 2024.
To prevent inconvenience, users are advised to ensure the completion of KYC for their latest FASTags. Compliance with 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' is essential, and users are encouraged to discard all previously issued FASTags through their respective banks. After January 31, 2024, only the latest FASTag account will remain active, as earlier tags will be deactivated or blacklisted.
NHAI's decision to implement this initiative comes in response to recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and instances where FASTags were distributed without adhering to the mandatory KYC process outlined by the RBI. Moreover, instances of FASTags not being affixed to the vehicle's windscreen have led to unnecessary delays at toll plazas, causing inconvenience to fellow National Highway users.
With a remarkable penetration rate of approximately 98 percent and a user base exceeding 8 crore, FASTag has significantly transformed the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country. The 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative is poised to further streamline toll operations, ensuring efficient and comfortable journeys for National Highway users.
FASTag users seeking assistance or clarification can contact the nearest toll plazas or utilize the toll-free customer care numbers provided by their respective issuer banks.
