Ministry of Home Affairs Approves CISF’s First All-Women Battalion in a Landmark Move for Women’s Empowerment

With 1025 Personnel, the Elite Women’s Battalion Will Strengthen National Security at Airports and Key Institutions, Opening New Pathways for Women in the Central Armed Police Forces

With the aim of empowering women and increasing their role in national security, the Ministry of Home Affairs has today approved a historic decision. With this approval, CISF has got its first all-women battalion. This is considered a big step for women's empowerment.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the creation of the first all-women battalion with more than 1 thousand personnel. This decision has been taken because of the increasing need for CISF personnel on duty at airports and other important institutions. According to the information, this battalion will be prepared from the already approved force of 2 lakh personnel. There will be 1025 women soldiers in the reserve battalion. This battalion will be led by a senior commandant-level officer.

CISF has been a preferred choice for women who wish to serve the country in the Central Armed Police Force, which currently accounts for more than 7% of the force. The addition of the women's battalion will encourage more ambitious young women from across the country to join CISF and serve the country. This will give a new identity to women in CISF.

CISF Headquarters has started preparations for early recruitment, training and selection of location for the headquarters of the new battalion. The training is being specially designed to create an elite battalion capable of playing multi-role roles as commandos in VIP security as well as security of airports, Delhi Metro Rail duty. The proposal for creation of all women battalions in the force was initiated in pursuance of the direction of Hon'ble Union Home Minister on the occasion of 53rd CISF Day.
