Decision on Maharashtra’s New CM Likely on December 3, Swearing-In Scheduled for December 5
The BJP on Tuesday appointed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as central observers for the selection of the leader of the party's legislative party in Maharashtra. This announcement was made in a statement issued by the party.
A statement issued by BJP General Secretary Arun Singh said, "The party's parliamentary board has appointed Vijay Rupani and Nirmala Sitharaman as central observers for the election of the leader of the party's legislative party in Maharashtra."
The Mahayuti has won a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The Mahayuti has won 230 seats in the 288-member assembly. The BJP won the highest number of 132 seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena got 57 and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) got 41 seats.
Even after more than a week has passed since the announcement of the election results, a new government has not been formed in Maharashtra.
Acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he will support the decision of the BJP regarding the selection of the new Chief Minister. After his announcement, it has become almost clear that the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra will be from BJP.
BJP has announced that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Mahayuti government will be held on the evening of December 5 at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend it.
BJP sources say that the meeting of the party's legislative party may be held on December 3.
