Bihar’s Power Sector Achieves Record Revenue Collection of ₹17,114 Crore
Efficient Billing, Consumer Cooperation, and Smart Meters Drive 13.27% Growth in Revenue;

Congratulating the state's distribution companies on record revenue collection, Honorable Energy Minister Mr. Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that this record has been possible due to the positive impact of the visionary leadership of Honorable Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar and the people-oriented policies of the state government. Both the subsidiary distribution companies of Bihar State Power Holding Company have set a new record by collecting 2,005 crores i.e. 13.27 percent more revenue as compared to the previous financial year. Out of the total revenue collected by the distribution companies of Rs 17,114 crore, NBPDCL earned a revenue of Rs 7,937 crore and SBPDCL earned a revenue of Rs 9,177 crore.
He congratulated the Energy Department, officials of both the distribution companies, all engineers and all the personnel engaged in revenue collection for the achievement of record revenue collection and also thanked all the consumers of the state. He said that the distribution companies achieved this feat due to the continuous cooperation of the people of the state and prompt payment of electricity bills.
The Hon'ble Minister said that the mutual coordination between the public and the Energy Department, better services provided by the companies and availability of 24X7 quality power supply is the result that consumers have paid their electricity bills regularly. Due to all this, the distribution companies have collected record revenue. He informed that better consumer service, strengthening of consumer grievance redressal system and direct communication with the people have also played an important role in revenue collection.
Energy Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar Pal said that billing and collection efficiency is the scale to assess the work of distribution companies. Due to billing and collection efficiency and increase in efficiency, distribution companies have been successful in providing continuous service to the consumers of the state without any additional financial burden for the last years. Due to better revenue collection in the financial year 2023-24, all consumers also got the benefit of reduction of 15 paise per unit in electricity rate in the financial year 2024-25. This year also, due to better revenue collection, electricity is being provided at a reduced rate of 54 paise per unit to consumers consuming more than 50 units in rural areas, 79 paise to rural smart meter consumers and 25 paise per unit to smart prepaid meter consumers in urban areas.
The Energy Secretary said that the distribution companies have also contributed significantly in reducing their AT&C losses and timely completion of loss reduction projects under RDSS in this record revenue collection. Also, smart prepaid meters played an important role in this record revenue collection. Along with this, various government departments have also paid a total of Rs 1600 crore, which was paid centrally by Urban Development and Housing, Health, Revenue and Land Reforms, Sports, Education, Panchayati Raj, Public Health Engineering Department and ICDS Directorate.
Energy Secretary and CMD BSPHCL Shri Pankaj Kumar Pal congratulated the officers and engineers of both the distribution companies.
