Patna’s Ganga Ghat to Be Transformed into a Major Tourist Destination
"Patna's Ganga Riverfront to Get ₹387.40 Crore Makeover: Bihar Govt's Ambitious Tourism Project to Feature Riverfront, Gardens & Parks";

Patna :The banks of the Ganga in Patna are all set to undergo a transformative makeover, with plans to develop the region into a sprawling tourism hub. Under this ambitious project, the Ganga Ghat will be reimagined as an integrated garden, incorporating various attractions such as a riverfront, thematic botanical garden, butterfly park, food court, urban women’s market, pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, and expansive parking facilities.
Spanning 49.7 hectares, this development will see the plantation of approximately one lakh trees and shrubs, enhancing Patna's greenery and contributing to a more sustainable environment. Notably, 90 percent of the total area will remain green and open, making this initiative a significant step towards improving the city’s ecological balance.
The project, which is slated to be completed within two years, promises to add a new dimension to the city’s landscape. The Path Construction Department outlines that a significant part of this initiative will include the creation of a 27-acre astronomical-themed botanical garden, inspired by the constellations. This garden will not only serve as a haven for nature lovers but also provide an educational experience based on traditional astronomy.
Additionally, the butterfly park is expected to be a major draw, especially for children and tourists eager to experience nature up close. A 6-kilometer-long pedestrian pathway along the Ganga will ensure a safe and scenic walking route for visitors, while ample parking for 4,000 four-wheelers and 13,000 two-wheelers will accommodate the growing influx of tourists.
State’s Road Construction Minister, Nitin Naveen, emphasized that this project marks a crucial milestone in Patna's sustainable development, while also bolstering its tourism and cultural footprint. “This initiative is not just about infrastructure; it’s about shaping Patna’s future as a vibrant tourist destination,” he remarked.
In alignment with the Chief Minister’s vision, the Bihar State Road Construction Corporation (BSRCC) has issued a tender notification for the first phase of the “JP Ganga Path Comprehensive Garden” project. The announcement was made following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s declaration on February 21 during the Pragati Yatra.
Naveen revealed that the development will span nearly 7 kilometers along the Ganga Path, stretching from Digha to Gandhi Maidan. With a projected budget of ₹387.40 crore, the project is expected to be completed in a span of 24 months. “The timely execution of this project is our utmost priority,” said the Minister, reflecting the government's commitment to fulfilling the Chief Minister’s vision. The tenders for the project will be available for download and submission from April 27 to May 26, with a competitive selection process ensuring quality and adherence to deadlines.
