New SIM Swap Rules Come into Effect from Today

New rules will come into effect from today i.e. July 1 regarding SIM swap. According to the new rules, there will now be a waiting period of 7 days after the SIM swap. Let us tell you that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had issued the Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations 2024 on March 14 this year. Which will come into effect from today. Now customers can switch from one service provider to another without changing the number with mobile number portability rules.

New changes implemented in number portability rules

New changes made in the mobile number portability rules (SIM Card Rule) are being implemented in the country. From today, new rules will come into effect regarding SIM swap. According to the new rules, there will now be a waiting period of 7 days after the SIM swap. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the new changes made in the mobile number portability rules will come into effect from today i.e. July 1.

According to TRAI, SIM swap or replacement means a process in which a new SIM is purchased due to the old SIM being lost or not working. This SIM is given to the old customer on the same number as the old SIM. Let us tell you that the change in the mobile number portability rules has been done to eliminate frauds related to swap and replacement.

Let us tell you, with the mobile number portability rules (SIM Card Rule), customers can switch from one service provider to another without changing the number. There have been changes from time to time in the Telecom Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009 regarding the mobile number portability process. Telecom Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009 have been amended 8 times so far. Now this is the ninth amendment.

According to the rule, if a user requests for a unique porting code within 7 days from the date of SIM swap or mobile number replacement, then this request will be rejected. Let us tell you, earlier this rule for unique porting code was related to a time period of 10 days.
