Corning Unveils Gorilla Glass 7i for Affordable Smartphones

Corning Incorporated has recently launched Gorilla Glass 7i, which is specially designed for mid-range and affordable smartphones. This new upgrade will provide better protection from drops and scratches than the older Gorilla Glass variants currently used in many mid-category devices in the market.

Corning Gorilla Glass 7i will replace older Gorilla Glass versions such as Gorilla Glass 5 offered in mid-range phones. Budget phone buyers will get a more advanced solution that will protect their phone. Along with this, it also fits the high quality display in mid-range devices.

According to Corning's press release, the new glass comes with significant improvements in durability. Lab tests show that the 7i can survive drops from up to 1 meter onto rough surfaces like tarmac, while aluminosilicate glasses usually break even at much lower heights of about 0.5 meters or less.

Apart from drop protection, Gorilla Glass 7i also offers double the scratch protection compared to some other lithium aluminosilicate cover glasses available in the market. This looks like a new solution for mid-range smartphone brands that offers better protection without costing too much
