A 70-year-old woman was found murdered in an apartment in Kalyan, police informed on Sunday. They said that the body was found on Saturday (February 27) and that the septuagenarian died as her throat was slit by unknown assailants with a sharp object. The victim has been identified as Hansaben Pravin Thakkar, a resident of Datta Ali, Tilak Chowk in Kalyan West. Senior inspector Yeshwant Chavan of Bazarpeth police station said that her body was recovered from her ground-floor apartment and bore several injury marks. "An offence under IPC section 302 (murder) has been registered against some unidentified persons in this connection," he said. The deceased reportedly lived alone in the apartment and was found dead only after she did not answer the phone when her daughter called. "When the daughter went to the victim's apartment to check on her, she saw her lying in a pool of blood, post which she informed the police," Chavan said. Informing that no valuables were missing from the house, cops said that all angles are being probed into the incident and a search operation has been launched to nab the accused.
