In Maharashtra, the ruling BJP-led alliance Mahayuti seems to be successfully retaining power. According to the latest data from the Election Commission, it is leading in more than 213 out of 288 assembly seats. According to initial trends, the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidates are leading in just 63 seats. Meanwhile, the stir regarding the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra has intensified.
There is a discussion in political circles that the next CM of the state may be from BJP. The name of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis is leading. The stir at Devendra Fadnavis's residence has also intensified and many big BJP leaders have reached his house. Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar's supporters have created a ruckus at one or two counting centres in Pune. They demand that Ajit Pawar should be the next CM.
On the trend of vote counting, BJP leader Praveen Darekar said, ‘If there is a BJP government in the centre and the state, Maharashtra will develop more, so the public has given us the majority, for this I especially thank the beloved sisters and the public of the state. The Chief Minister will be from BJP only, I think Fadnavis will be the CM.’
Earlier yesterday, BJP leader and former MP Navneet Rana had said, ‘The next CM in the state will be from BJP only. You will see the BJP CM taking oath on the 26th.’ At the same time, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat said, ‘The election was fought under the leadership of the current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and he is the natural choice for the top post.’
However, NCP leader Amol Mitkari insisted on handing over this post to his party chief Ajit Pawar. In the Mahayuti alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party fielded candidates in 149 assembly seats, Shiv Sena in 81 seats and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in 59 constituencies.
In the opposition MVA alliance, the Congress fielded 101 candidates, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) 95 and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) 86 candidates. Parties like Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) also contested the elections, with BSP fielding 237 candidates and AIMIM fielding 17 candidates.
