Union Cabinet Approves Varanasi-Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Multi-Tracking Project to Boost Connectivity and Local Economy
Rs 2,642 Crore Project to Include New Rail-Cum-Road Bridge over Ganga and Expanded Rail Lines for Reduced Congestion and Enhanced Infrastructure
The Union Cabinet has approved the Varanasi-Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya 'Multi-Tracking' project, costing Rs 2,642 crore. Under this project, a new rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga river and a third and fourth rail line between Varanasi and DDU Junction will be constructed. This project will help in reducing the congestion of the region, modernizing the infrastructure and creating new opportunities for local residents and businesses.
This proposed project includes the construction of a new rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga river and a third and fourth rail line between Varanasi and DDU Junction. According to the official statement, this project will ease operations and help reduce congestion. Varanasi railway station, which is a major hub of Indian Railways, serves as an important gateway for pilgrims and tourists.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his reaction to this decision, in which he said, "We are leaving no stone unturned for the comfort and convenience of Kashi residents." Referring to the approval of the new rail-road bridge over the Ganga, he said that it would provide better connectivity to the local people and tourists, and it would also provide new employment and business opportunities.
This route, important for passenger and freight traffic, faces heavy congestion in the transportation of goods like coal, cement and food grains. Infrastructure improvement is needed to solve this problem. The project includes the construction of a new bridge over the Ganga river and the third and fourth railway lines, which aim to improve capacity and efficiency.
The official statement also said that the project is a result of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which will ensure the seamless movement of people and goods. Apart from this, it will help the railways achieve climate goals and reduce the logistics cost of the country. This will reduce carbon emissions by 149 crore kg, which is equivalent to planting about six crore trees.
This project will increase the railway network by about 30 km in the Varanasi and Chandauli districts of Uttar Pradesh. Through this, not only will the socio-economic condition of the area improve, but new opportunities will also open up for local residents and businesses. This project is an important step for the development of the region.
