PIL Filed Against Congress in Allahabad High Court Seeking Disqualification of 99 MPs and Party Suspension
Allegations of False Promises in Lok Sabha Election; Social Activist Bharti Singh Demands Action for Violations of Election Rules
A PIL was filed against the Congress party in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. In the PIL filed in Allahabad High Court, a demand has been made to disqualify 99 MPs of the Congress party and suspend the registration of the party along with confiscating the election symbol of the party. The petition states that in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had promised Rs 8500 in exchange for votes. This is against the rules.
Social activist Bharti Singh has filed the PIL with the help of advocates OP Singh and Shashwat Anand. The PIL is likely to be heard next week. The petition states that in the last Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party told the public about a guarantee card scheme. Under this, the poor, backward, Dalits and minorities were promised Rs 8500 per month to be deposited in their bank accounts from July after the elections. This promise turned out to be completely false after the Lok Sabha elections.
The petition states that in this promise, a guarantee was announced to give money every month to those who voted for the Congress and its allied parties. In this promise letter, the lure of giving money in exchange for votes was given. This promise letter of the Congress party has the signatures of President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. Along with this, there is also an acknowledgment receipt, which makes people believe that they will get money for voting. Regarding this, the Election Commission had also issued an advisory on May 2, 24, but the Congress party did not implement it.
The petitioner says that this act of the Congress party is a blatant violation of Section 121 (1) (A) of the Representation of the People Act. Along with this, it is a punishable offense under the Indian Justice Code and the Indian Penal Code. The petitioner has given a representation to the Election Commission to take action, but the Commission did not take any action, after which this PIL has been filed.
