Is Rahul Gandhi not an Indian citizen? Allahabad High Court seeks report from Home Ministry
The Home Ministry has said that the court will be informed after the investigation. At present, it is in process.
Allahabad High Court has sought a status report from the Home Ministry regarding Rahul Gandhi's citizenship. While hearing the PIL filed by S Vignesh Shishir, the court has sought this report from the Home Ministry. The Home Ministry has said that the court will be informed after the investigation. At present, it is in process.
This PIL is being heard in the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court. The next hearing of the case will be on December 19. It has been claimed that Leader of Opposition (LOP) Rahul Gandhi has citizenship of the United Kingdom (UK).
A division bench of Justice AR Masoodi and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi has passed this order on the petition filed by S Vignesh Shishir of Karnataka, in which a CBI inquiry was also demanded in Gandhi's citizenship case. The court directed Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.B.
Vignesh Shishir, who filed the petition, said that the case came up for hearing on November 25. The Home Ministry is now investigating it. Action is going on from the side of the Government of India. He said that the Hon'ble Court has ordered that within 3 weeks on December 19, a final decision should be taken on what action should be taken if this is so. The court has said that all the evidence should be presented on December 19. Shishir said that I am confident that on the basis of whatever documents we have given, Rahul Gandhi's citizenship will be cancelled.
In July 2024, the High Court allowed Shishir to withdraw a similar petition and gave him the freedom to take measures under the Citizenship Act. Shishir has now again approached the High Court for a decision on his representation. Shishir informed the court that after withdrawing his earlier petition before the High Court, he submitted two representations to the competent authority in the Union Home Ministry.
In these representations, a demand was made to cancel Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship on the basis of his alleged British citizenship. Shishir has also requested a CBI inquiry into the matter. The court had clarified that its present focus was entirely on whether the Centre had received the representation and what decision or action it proposed to take.
