Four cleaners working on the track were hit by the Kerala Express in Palakkad, Tamil Nadu. The four cleaners were killed in the collision. The incident took place near Shoranur railway station on Saturday evening, railway police said. The Kerala Express traveling from New Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram hit the employees at around 3.05 pm. These cleaners were clearing garbage from the railway track over the Shoranur bridge, a few kilometers from the railway station.
Three bodies have been recovered from the area while efforts are being made to trace the fourth body, which is believed to have fallen into the Bharatpuzha river, police said. A team of railway police is on the spot. "The employees may not have seen the train coming, which led to the accident, but further investigations are on," a Shoranur railway police official said.
Two women were killed when they were cut off by a freight train in the Jarwal Road police station area of Bahraich on the Lucknow-Gonda railway block on Friday morning. Shahjahan, 42, and Salma, 40, of Jhukia village in Jarwal Road police station, had crossed the railway track and gone to the fields for daily activities. On the way back, they heard the sound of the train and stopped between the other tracks and waited for the train to leave. Meanwhile, another train (freight train) came on the track where they were standing. Both died on the spot after being hit by the freight train. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Jarwal Road police station in-charge Brijraj Prasad said.
