India Advocates Dialogue and Diplomacy to Resolve Ukraine Crisis: NSA Ajit Doval

In a significant diplomatic engagement, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval represented India at a conference hosted by Saudi Arabia to address the ongoing Ukraine crisis. The conference witnessed the participation of senior political officials and NSAs from around 40 countries, including major powers like China, France, Germany, the UK, and the US. Notably, Russia was excluded from the two-day meeting.

Speaking at the conference, NSA Doval emphasized India's unwavering commitment to promoting dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path towards achieving lasting peace in the region. He asserted that all peace efforts must involve the participation of all stakeholders to arrive at a "just and enduring solution."

“India is a big believer in the efficacy of negotiation and diplomacy. This approach is essential for achieving sustainable peace," stated NSA Doval. He further added that the focus should not only be on resolving the immediate situation but also on mitigating the consequences of the conflict. This dual-pronged approach requires concerted efforts on both fronts, with much groundwork still needed to ensure success.

India has maintained consistent engagement with both Russia and Ukraine at the highest levels since the onset of the conflict. NSA Doval reiterated India's support for the global order based on the principles laid out in the UN Charter and international law. The respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be upheld without exceptions, according to the Indian stance.

The ongoing crisis in Ukraine has seen various peace proposals, each with positive aspects, but none have garnered acceptance from both parties involved. To address this challenge, NSA Doval posed a critical question: whether a solution agreeable to all relevant stakeholders can be achieved.

In this context, he assured India's commitment to actively contribute as a willing partner in the pursuit of a comprehensive and lasting solution. Such an outcome, Doval asserted, would bring immense satisfaction to India and contribute to a more stable and peaceful world.

At the conclusion of the conference, Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reported "productive consultations" on the key principles to build a just and lasting peace. The participating countries demonstrated their commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

The conference marked Ukraine's efforts to garner support from diverse countries beyond its traditional Western allies. By engaging with developing nations like India and Saudi Arabia, Ukraine seeks to strengthen its cause and promote a united front for peace restoration based on international law.
