ICC gives team India 3 Demerit Points after Indore pitch rated as "poor"

The International Cricket Council rated the playing surface at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, which will host the third Test between India and Australia, as ‘poor'.

The pitch was scrutinised beginning with the morning session on the first day of the Test match, with the hosts losing seven wickets in the first session. They were eventually dismissed for 109 runs. While Australia batted for nearly 77 overs in their first innings, India collapsed for 163 in their second innings. As a result, the visitors only needed 76 on the third morning to complete the task, with the game lasting less than 200 overs.

After match referee Chris Broad submitted his report, the venue received three demerit points because the pitch was rated poor under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process.

"The pitch, which was very dry, did not provide a balance between bat and ball, favouring spinners from the start," Broad said. "The fifth ball of the match broke through the pitch surface and continued to occasionally break the surface providing little or no seam movement and there was excessive and uneven bounce throughout the match."
