Indian Naval Ships Strengthen Ties in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines

Three Indian naval vessels – Delhi, Shakti, and Kiltan – recently concluded a successful port visit to Singapore from May 6th to 9th, 2024. This visit, part of the Eastern Fleet's operational deployment to the South China Sea, aimed to bolster bilateral relations and maritime cooperation between India and Singapore.

Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, along with the commanding officers of the visiting ships, engaged in discussions with the Fleet Commander of the Republic of Singapore Navy at the Singapore Naval Headquarters. These discussions focused on strengthening naval cooperation and ensuring interoperability between the two forces.

Beyond official meetings, the visit fostered a spirit of camaraderie. A deck reception hosted onboard INS Shakti provided a platform for personnel from both navies, the Indian diaspora in Singapore, and the local diplomatic community to interact and build lasting connections.

The Indian Navy's commitment to maritime outreach was evident as local schoolchildren were invited to tour the Indian ships. These tours offered a glimpse into the world of naval operations, India's rich maritime heritage, and the importance of safeguarding maritime security. These interactions aim to spark an interest in maritime affairs among the younger generation.

The visit also included professional exchanges. Sailors from both navies participated in cross-ship visits and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE), allowing them to share knowledge and best practices across various aspects of naval operations.

This successful port call underscores the strong relationship between India and Singapore and their shared commitment to maintaining a peaceful and stable maritime environment in the region.
