In a swift rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) saved the life of a critically ill fisherman off the coast of Beypore, Kerala on May 7th, 2024.
The fisherman, who fell overboard from the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Jazeera, was reportedly rescued by the crew but his health deteriorated due to water inhalation. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the IFB issued a medical distress call.
Responding promptly to the distress signal, the ICG mobilized its resources. An Advanced Light Helicopter with a medical team from Kochi, along with ICG ships Aryaman and C-404, were deployed to locate the vessel.
After successfully locating the IFB, the ICG airlifted the ailing fisherman to Kochi. He was then transferred to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
This successful rescue operation highlights the ICG's commitment to safeguarding lives at sea. Their swift and coordinated action, living up to their motto "Vayam Rakshama" (We Protect), ensured timely medical care for the fisherman.
