The highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of the state-of-the-art New Terminal Building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport. This monumental structure, developed at a cost exceeding Rs 1,100 crores, is a two-level international terminal equipped to handle more than 44 lakh passengers annually and approximately 3,500 passengers during peak hours. The terminal boasts cutting-edge amenities, prioritizing passenger convenience and satisfaction.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi extended heartfelt New Year wishes to all and expressed his delight at commencing 2024 with such impactful projects in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that the projects, with a combined value exceeding Rs 20,000 crores, would significantly bolster the state's progress. The Prime Minister lauded the people of Tamil Nadu for their resilience and congratulated them on initiatives spanning roadways, railways, ports, airports, energy, and petroleum pipelines, foreseeing substantial economic growth and job creation.
Acknowledging the recent challenges faced by Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences and reassured the state of unwavering support from the central government. He affirmed, "We are providing all possible assistance to the State government."
Paying homage to the late Thiru Vijaykanth, Prime Minister Modi recalled him as a 'Captain' not just in cinema but also in politics, praising his dedication to national interests. The Prime Minister also remembered the contributions of Dr. M S Swaminathan, highlighting his pivotal role in ensuring food security for the nation.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi provided insights into India's substantial investments in various sectors over the last decade, emphasizing the government's commitment to physical infrastructure. He proudly mentioned India's recent achievement of breaking into the top 5 global economies, with Tamil Nadu emerging as a prime beneficiary. The Prime Minister celebrated the influx of foreign investments, positioning Tamil Nadu as a key brand ambassador for the "Make in India" initiative, bringing direct benefits to the state and its citizens.
