Interim Government of Bangladesh Led by Economist Mohammad Yunus to Take Oath on Thursday

Professor Mohammad Yunus, who has won the Nobel Peace Prize, has been chosen as the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. He will take oath on Thursday at around 8 pm local time.

Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman said that the interim government of Bangladesh led by economist Mohammad Yunus will take oath on August 8. General Waqar said in a press conference on Wednesday that the interim government can take oath on Thursday at 8 pm. He also said that the advisory council can have 15 members.

Mohammad Yunus was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his work to develop the microcredit market. Apart from this, Mohammad Yunus is also credited with bringing thousands of people out of poverty through Grameen Bank.

He founded Grameen Bank in 1983, this bank gives small loans to those businessmen who are refused loans by any big bank. Mohammad Yunus is highly respected in Bangladesh, people like to listen to him. Amidst the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, he appealed to the protesters to maintain peace.

It is noteworthy that President Mohammad Shahabuddin on Tuesday appointed economist Yunus (84) as the head of the interim government. Mohammad Zainul Abdin said that this decision was taken in a meeting between President Shahabuddin and a 13-member delegation of the 'Anti-Discrimination Student Movement'.

The chiefs of the three armed forces were also present in this meeting. After the four-hour meeting, the press secretary said, 'The President appointed Dr. Yunus as the chief advisor of the interim government.'

He said that the names of other members of the interim government will be decided after consultation with various political parties. A day before this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was going to give a decision on the reservation in jobs.
