Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy: A Political Odyssey from Entrepreneurship to Chief Ministership

Yeduguri Sandinti Jagan Mohan Reddy, commonly known as Jagan Mohan Reddy, was born on December 21, 1972, in Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh, India. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Before entering politics, Jagan Mohan Reddy was involved in various businesses. He established the Jagati Publications group, which owns the Telugu daily newspaper Sakshi.
Jagan Mohan Reddy entered politics in 2004 and was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Kadapa constituency in Andhra Pradesh, representing the Indian National Congress (INC).
In 2011, Jagan Mohan Reddy founded the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) after resigning from the INC. The party was established in memory of his father, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and aimed to continue his father's legacy.
Under Jagan Mohan Reddy's leadership, the YSRCP quickly gained prominence in Andhra Pradesh politics. In subsequent elections, the party performed well, winning a significant number of seats in the state legislative assembly and parliament.
In 2017, Jagan Mohan Reddy embarked on a massive padayatra (foot march) named "Praja Sankalpa Yatra." This 3,648-kilometer-long journey across Andhra Pradesh aimed to connect with people at the grassroots level and understand their issues.
In May 2019, the YSRCP secured a landslide victory in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. Jagan Mohan Reddy became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, succeeding N. Chandrababu Naidu.
As Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy implemented several welfare schemes, including "Amma Vodi" (Mother's Lap), which provides financial assistance to support the education of children, and "YSR Rythu Bharosa" (Farmers' Support), aimed at providing financial assistance to farmers.
Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure has also seen a focus on infrastructure development. Projects such as the Polavaram Irrigation Project and the Kadapa Steel Plant have been initiated under his leadership.
Jagan Mohan Reddy's political journey has been marked by controversies, including allegations of corruption and disproportionate assets. He has faced legal battles and investigations related to these allegations.
