The Haunted Revival: The Story of Begunkodor Railway Station
Begunkodor Railway Station is situated in the Purulia district of West Bengal, under the Adra railway division of the South Eastern Railway zone.
The station was established in the 1960s, primarily due to the efforts of a local queen, Rani Rashmoni, who wanted to improve connectivity in the region.
Begunkodor Railway Station gained notoriety for being haunted. The legend started in 1967 when a railway employee allegedly saw a woman in a white saree at night and died mysteriously soon after. Following this, the station was deserted for decades.
Due to its haunted reputation, the station was abandoned in 1967 and remained closed for 42 years. It became a symbol of fear and mystery, with no trains stopping there.
In 2009, the station was reopened after persistent efforts by local residents and activists who dismissed the ghost stories as myths. Indian Railways resumed services, and the station started functioning normally again.
The haunted tales have turned Begunkodor Railway Station into a curious tourist spot. People visit to explore the station's eerie past and experience its unique atmosphere.
Today, Begunkodor is an operational railway station with trains stopping regularly. The ghost stories have largely faded, and the station functions like any other in the region.
