Shivraj Singh Chouhan: A Political Journey and Leadership in Madhya Pradesh
Shivraj Singh Chouhan was born on March 5, 1959, in Jait, a village in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.
He completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics from the Model Higher Secondary School, Bhopal, and then earned a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Philosophy from Barkatullah University, Bhopal.
Chouhan began his political career as a student leader associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
He was first elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Budhni constituency in Madhya Pradesh in 1990 and has won every subsequent election from the same constituency.
Chouhan rose through the ranks of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and held various positions within the party, including General Secretary and National Convener.
Chouhan served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for three consecutive terms, from 2005 to 2018, making him one of the longest-serving Chief Ministers in the state's history.
After a brief hiatus, Shivraj Singh Chouhan returned as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on March 23, 2020, following the collapse of the Congress-led government in the state and served until December 12, 2023.
During his tenure as Chief Minister, Chouhan implemented various development initiatives in Madhya Pradesh, focusing on sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Chouhan's government introduced several agricultural schemes aimed at improving farmers' livelihoods, including the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana and the Krishi Rin Samadhan Yojana.
He initiated programs like Ladli Laxmi Yojana and Kanyadan Yojana to promote the welfare and empowerment of women in the state.
