Pilot served as the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology from 2009 to 2012. He later served as the Minister of State for Corporate Affairs from 2012 to 2014 in the UPA II government.
In 2014, after the Congress's defeat in the Rajasthan assembly elections, Pilot was appointed as the President of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. He played a crucial role in reviving the party's fortunes in the state.
Following the Congress's victory in the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly elections, Pilot was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He also held the portfolio of the Public Works Department, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Science and Technology.
In July 2020, Pilot led a rebellion against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, accusing him of sidelining and undermining his leadership. This led to a political crisis in the Rajasthan government. However, after negotiations, Pilot was removed from his deputy CM post but remained in the Congress party.
Sachin Pilot is married to Sara Abdullah, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah. The couple has two sons, Aaran and Vehaan.
Demonstrating his commitment to the nation, Pilot joined the Territorial Army in 2012, becoming the first Union minister to be commissioned as a regular officer in the Indian Army.
Throughout his political career, Pilot has been a strong advocate for youth empowerment, education, and farmers' rights. His initiatives have focused on improving rural infrastructure and agricultural productivity.
Known for his dynamic and progressive approach, Pilot has consistently emphasized inclusive development, social justice, and economic reforms. He is considered one of the prominent young leaders in the Congress party and a potential future leader at the national level.
