KL Rahul: Key Facts About His Life and Cricket Career
Kannur Lokesh Rahul, commonly known as KL Rahul, was born on April 18, 1992, in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
Rahul's father, KN Lokesh, is a professor and former director at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, and his mother, Rajeshwari, is a professor at Mangalore University.
Rahul made his first-class debut for Karnataka in the 2010-11 season. His consistent performances in domestic cricket quickly brought him into the spotlight.
He made his Test debut for India against Australia in December 2014. His ODI debut came in June 2016 against Zimbabwe, and he played his first T20I in the same series.
Rahul scored his maiden Test century in only his second Test match, against Australia in Sydney in January 2015. He has since added several more centuries to his tally in Test cricket.
Rahul currently plays for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, where he also serves as a wicketkeeper. He has previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).
In his ODI debut, Rahul became the first Indian to score a century on debut, achieving this feat against Zimbabwe in 2016.
Known for his adaptability, Rahul can bat in multiple positions. He has opened the innings and also played in the middle order, both in international cricket and the IPL.
Besides his batting prowess, Rahul is also an accomplished wicketkeeper, often fulfilling this role for his teams, especially in limited-overs cricket.
Rahul is married to Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty. They tied the knot on January 23, 2023, in an intimate ceremony. Athiya Shetty is the daughter of famous Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty.
