H.D. Kumaraswamy: A Multifaceted Journey in Karnataka Politics

H.D. Kumaraswamy, whose full name is Haradanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy, was born on December 16, 1959, in Haradanahalli village, Hassan district, Karnataka, India. He hails from a prominent political family, with his father H.D. Deve Gowda serving as the Prime Minister of India.

Kumaraswamy entered politics following in the footsteps of his father. He joined the Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)], a political party founded by his father, and quickly rose through the ranks.

Kumaraswamy served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka twice. His first term was from February 3, 2006, to October 9, 2007, and his second term was from May 23, 2018, to July 23, 2019.

Both of Kumaraswamy's terms as Chief Minister were part of coalition governments. In 2006, he led a JD(S)-BJP coalition government, and in 2018, he led a JD(S)-Congress coalition government.
