Nirmala Sitharaman is the current Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India.
She was born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Tiruchirapalli, and a Master's degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
Sitharaman began her career with a brief stint at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in London.
She served as a member of the National Commission for Women from 2003 to 2005.
She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2006 and quickly rose through the ranks.
Appointed as the Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs in 2014.
Became India's first full-time female Defence Minister in 2017.
In 2019, she was appointed the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, becoming the second woman to hold the position after Indira Gandhi.
