Tejashwi Yadav was born on November 9, 1989, in Patna, Bihar, India. He is the younger son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, a former Chief Minister of Bihar, and Rabri Devi, who also served as Chief Minister of Bihar.

Before entering politics, Tejashwi pursued a career in cricket. He played as an all-rounder in the under-19 team of Jharkhand.
