Suyash Sharma: who is he? Teenage wonder from KKR who duped RCB on IPL debut

Here is all you need to know about Suyash Sharma, the mysterious new spinner for KKR who stood out against RCB in the IPL 2023.

Suyash, making his debut, destroyed RCB while partnering with mystery spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. Du Plessis' team collapsed for a meagre score of 123 in 17.4 overs while chasing a massive 205. Suyash took the important wickets of Dinesh Karthik (9), Anuj Rawat (1), and Karn Sharma (1) in the lopsided match, capping off a spectacular start for the Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. In his four overs, the KKR rookie took three wickets for 30 runs.

"Suyash is a self-assured young guy who believes in himself. After the game, Nitish Rana, the acting captain of KKR, gave a particular mention to Suyash, saying, "He made his chance count and it was great to see him bowl that way." In Kolkata's first home game of the new season, KKR replaced opener Venkatesh Iyer with Impact Player Suyash. Suyash, a new fan favourite at the Eden Gardens, has never made a single appearance in a professional match before making his KKR debut.

For the uninitiated, Suyash is a right-arm leg spinner who is from the capital. Suyash began his cricket career in Delhi by competing in club competitions. The young player was identified by Chandrakant Pandit's KKR team and given a contract for the IPL 2023 after the promising prospect excelled during the tryouts.

At the IPL 2023 auction, Chandrakant's KKR was the only IPL team to make a bid for Suyash. The two-time winners signed him for his base salary of INR 20 lakh. "We watched him play in exhibition games and were really pleased with the manner he bowled. He's swift in the air and challenging to pick. After Kolkata thrashed RCB by 81 runs, KKR head coach Chandrakant praised newcomer Suyash, saying "He's inexperienced but shows a very good attitude."
