Wrestler Jordan Burroughs Leads Calls for Rule Changes After Vinesh's Disqualification Over Minor Weight Gain
The whole country is shocked when wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who had reached the final of the Paris Olympics, was disqualified. Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified due to a weight gain of 100 grams. Vinesh was to face American wrestler Sarah in the final of the 50 kg category.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya gave a statement in Parliament on Vinesh's disqualification and said that whatever action is necessary has been taken. Earlier, the President and the Prime Minister encouraged Vinesh. The PM said that Vinesh is a champion among champions. At the same time, the opposition suspected a conspiracy.
Amidst all this, now there is also a demand for change in the rules of the International Wrestling Federation (UWW). After Phogat's unexpected exit, Olympic gold medalist and six-time world champion American wrestler Jordan Burroughs has demanded UWW to immediately change the rules and give Vinesh a silver medal. He supported Vinesh by sharing two different posts on X.
In another post, the American star wrestler wrote - Proposed Immediate Rule Changes for UWW:
1. 1kg second Day Weight Allowance.
2. Weigh-ins pushed from 8:30am to 10:30am.
3. Forfeit will occur in future finals if opposing finalist misses weight.
4. After a semifinal victory, both finalists’ medals are secured even if weight is missed on Day 2. Gold can only be won by a wrestler who makes weight on the second day.
5. Give Vinesh the Silver medal.
