The third season of the Women's Premier League is going to start on February 23 next year. At the same time, the mini-auction of players for the upcoming tournament will be held in Bengaluru on December 15 next month. For this, the BCCI has informed the five franchises of the league about the venue and date related to it. The Women's Premier League will start on February 23 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The matches will be played in two cities Bengaluru and Delhi.
How many slots to be filled?
According to the report, the mini-auction will be held in Bengaluru on December 15 before the third season of the Women's Premier League. The auction will have bids for 19 slots i.e. 14 Indian and 5 foreign. In which teams can spend Rs 16.7 crore.
Which team has the maximum purse?
Each team has 18 players and teams can spend up to Rs 15 crore. Each squad is allowed to include a maximum of 6 foreign players. After retention, Gujarat Giants have a maximum purse of Rs 4.4 crore, in which four slots are to be filled.
Which team has the smallest purse?
With Rs 2.5 crore, Delhi Capitals, runners-up of the first two editions, have the smallest purse. They can fill a maximum of four slots, including one overseas. But overall, each of the five franchises has a total budget of Rs 15 crore to build their squads, up from Rs 13.5 crore last year.
How many players are part of the highest slab in the auction?
Only 2, England captain Heather Knight and West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin, have placed themselves in the highest slab, with a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
Who will play in the first match?
The first 11 matches of the league will be played in Bengaluru. The first match of the season will be played between Mumbai and Delhi Capitals. Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium will host the final 11 matches including the Eliminator and Final on March 15 and 17 respectively.
Are the team combination rules the same as IPL?
Unlike the IPL, the WPL does not have an impact player rule, which means teams can only field the 11 players they declare at the time of the toss. However, WPL teams can field 5 overseas players, provided the 5th player is from an Associate nation.
