Punjab CM Launches Khedan Watan Punjab Dian's Third Edition, Mega Sporting Event to Start from Sangrur

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday launched the T-shirt and logo for the third edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Dian, a mega sporting event scheduled to start from Sangrur on August 29.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the event will commemorate National Sports Day, marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The sporting extravaganza, spanning over two months, will kick off from the War Heroes Stadium in Sangrur.

Mann expressed pride and satisfaction that this year's event will witness participation from over five lakh players, competing in nine age groups across 37 games. The winners will receive cash prizes totaling over Rs 9 crore.

Notably, the event has included para sports - Athletics, Badminton, and Power Lifting - for the first time, with Punjab's para athletes participating in the Paris Paralympics.

The Chief Minister emphasized the event's objective of channelizing the energy of youth in a positive direction, steering them away from drug abuse. The competitions will be held at block level from September 1-10, district level from September 15-22, and state level from October 11 to November 9.

Mann recalled the success of the second edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Dian, held in 2023, which saw participation from 4.5 lakh players and distributed prizes worth Rs 8.87 crore to 12,500 winning players.
