IPL 2025: BCCI takes strict action against Harry Brook, banned for two years

Preparations for the Indian Premier League 2025 are in full swing, but this time a big controversy has arisen even before the tournament starts. Giving a strong message to England's young batsman Harry Brook, the BCCI has banned him from the IPL for two years. This decision was taken when Brook withdrew his name from the IPL for the second time in a row, which was a big setback for his team Delhi Capitals. The purpose of this tough step of the BCCI is to take strict action against those foreign players who participate in the auction but withdraw before the tournament for some reason or other.

When the auction was held for this year's IPL, Harry Book also gave his name. After this his name was shortlisted and bids were also made on his name. Delhi Capitals had managed to get him in their team for 6.25. But as soon as the IPL season came closer, Harry Brook withdrew his name. This is the second consecutive year that Harry Brook has done so. This time Harry had cited his national commitments. Now Harry Brook will not be able to play IPL for two more years. A report in Indian Express says that BCCI has informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about this. In the report, a BCCI official has been quoted as saying that BCCI has banned Harry Brook as per the rules. Along with Harry Brook, ECB has also been informed.

Actually, many IPL teams were troubled by this kind of drama. Players used to give their names for the IPL auction and when they were selected, they used to withdraw their names from this tournament by giving some excuse or the other. This has happened not once but many times. When the teams asked BCCI to make some rules on this matter, BCCI made it clear that any player who does this will be banned for two years. All the players were informed about this before the auction held last year.

Harry Brook has cheated Delhi Capitals twice in a row. Harry did the same just before the 2024 IPL. Then he said that his grandmother had passed away, so he would not be able to play IPL. Even then Delhi Capitals had bought him at a very hefty price. Now soon Harry Brook's replacement will be announced by Delhi Capitals.
