ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: UAE to Host, Schedule Unveiled
The International Cricket Council has announced the revised schedule of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to 20. Dubai and Sharjah will host the ninth edition of the tournament. The decision to shift the tournament from Bangladesh to UAE was taken by the ICC Board in a recent meeting held on August 20.
Ten teams will play 23 matches at two venues in the UAE, Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Stadium, in which the best teams in the world will compete for the highest prize of T20 cricket. Group A includes 6-time champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. While Group B includes Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland. Each team will play 4 group matches. There will be an additional thrill of hosting three double-header matches at both the venues.
In the first match of the Women's T20 World Cup, Bangladesh will take on Scotland in Sharjah. After that Pakistan will take on Asia Cup winner Sri Lanka. 2023 runners-up South Africa will play West Indies in their first match of the T20 World Cup in Dubai on October 4.
The most successful team in the history of T20 World Cup and defending champions Australia will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on October 5 while the much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan will be held in Dubai on October 6.
The top two teams from each group will play the second-placed team from the opposite group. The first semi-final will be held in Dubai on October 17 and the second semi-final in Sharjah on October 18. If India reach the semi-finals, they will play in Semi-Final 1. The final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup will be played in Dubai on October 20.
The excitement will begin with 10 practice matches from September 28 to October 1, all of which will be held at the Sevens Stadium and ICC Academy Ground in Dubai.
