CAS Set to Deliver Final Verdict on Vinesh Phogat's Olympic Disqualification
The CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) has reportedly decided to take a final decision on Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's plea against disqualification before the end of the Paris Olympics 2024. Vinesh had approached the CAS after the organisers disqualified her just hours before the women's 50kg final bout on Wednesday.
CAS has given another update on whether Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat will get a medal or not. It has been told that the ad hoc division of CAS has registered the application in the case of Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh had decided to retire in an emotional post after being disqualified in the Olympics.
An Australian judge is mediating the matter of whether Vinesh will get a medal or not. At the same time, a decision on this can come before the Olympics end. The Paris Olympics is concluding on August 11.
A press release was issued by CAS today (August 9) in the case of Vinesh Phogat and a big update related to this matter was given. Vinesh's case has been registered as CAS OG 24/17 Vinesh Phogat vs United World Wrestling (UWW) and International Olympic Committee (IOC).
CAS said that in this case, an application was given by Vinesh Phogat on 7 August 2024 at 8:15 am Indian time. In this, Vinesh had requested that she be allowed to qualify for the final and she should be considered eligible for the gold medal match.
