Brian Lara Hails Carl Hooper as Superior Batsman to Sachin Tendulkar
West Indies legend Brian Lara called Carl Hooper a bigger batsman than Sachin in world cricket. The great player has revealed this in his book 'Lara: The England Chronicles'. Brian Lara believes that his former teammate Carl Hooper had more talent as a batsman than him and Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar. Lara spoke in detail about Hooper's extraordinary skills. He especially talked in detail about his impressive performance as a captain and his important role in important matches.
Brian Lara wrote in his new book - 'Lara: The England Chronicles' that 'Carl was one of the best players I have ever seen. I would say that even Tendulkar and I cannot come close to that talent.'
Lara described Hooper's performance as captain as his extraordinary ability. Lara said that Hooper really shone when he was given leadership responsibilities. Lara said that if we separate Carl's career from playing to captaincy, then his figures are very different. His average as a captain was close to 50, so he enjoyed the responsibility. It is sad that only as a captain did he fulfill his true potential.
Lara recalled Hooper's important role in the drawn Test match against England at Lord's in June 1991. In that match, Lara showed his cricketing skills. This was followed by a rare defeat of the West Indies at Headingley, which was their first home defeat against England since 1969.
Brian Lara said - When I think about that match at Lord's, I see the class of Carl Hooper. Man, what a player he was. The ease with which he batted created a kind of awe in all of us, including the senior players. Lara told that you felt that when Carl went to bat, he enjoyed it.
