Informed Voting: A Key to Strengthening Democracy in India

Recognizing the critical importance of informed voting, Swatantra Jann Awaaz Foundation through Delhi Voter’s Voice Forum has hosted a seminar to emphasize the role of knowledge and awareness in the democratic process on Thursday at Casuarina Hall, India Habitat Center, New Delhi.

Justice SN Dhingra, stated the objective of this seminar was awareness of Delhi's Voter-base, along with immediate issues and the societal impact the regime will have. He pointed out if efforts have been made in the right direction as voters must keep in mind the hidden agenda of any policy framework by the government. He emphasized on the fact that student teacher ratio is to be given preference over cosmetic improvements at any given time, schemes that entice people under the garb of illegal profiteering must be called out. He also emphasized on the importance of taking ancient Indian pedagogy and educational implementation cross border as examples while concluding his speech.

Intellectual and educated members of the Delhi Voter’s Voice Forum analyzed, discussed & critically evaluated these areas to highlight both successes and failures. To engage the electorate effectively, the forum has been conducting public awareness campaigns through community meetings, social media outreach, and distribution of voter education materials. The Delhi Voter’s Voice Forum’s intent and agenda has been to collaborate with experts and intellectuals that facilitate discussions on governance challenges and potential solutions tailored to the needs of Delhi's citizens. Furthering this agenda, several intellectual members of the society, including professors and scholars associated with several universities presented their research and fact-based arguments and analysis before the audience, during the seminar.

The Delhi Voter’s Voice Forum is established with the faith that an informed electorate is essential for a thriving democracy. By bringing forth discussions on the issues plaguing the general public, we aim to empower voters to make decisions that reflect their interests and priorities.

Retd. Justice S. N Dhingra ji, and Retd. IRS Dr. Anup Srivastav inaugurated the seminar and delivered a keynote speech on the importance of being informed before casting one's vote. The speech emphasized on and highlighted the important policy related issues faced by Delhi's citizens and the need for accountability and transparent governance.

The primary purpose of the Delhi Voter’s Voice Forum is to educate and empower the electorate of Delhi by raising awareness about the current government's policies, achievements, and shortcomings. Through fact-based analysis, discussions, and outreach campaigns, Delhi Voter’s Voice Forum aims to provide voters with comprehensive information on how government policies will impact their daily lives and the future of the city. By encouraging informed voting, the organization aims to ensure a voter equipped to make a well-informed decision in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, based on transparency, accountability and long-term civic progress.

As responsible citizens, our duty is to ensure contribution of voters to build a progressive and inclusive society. This seminar was a step toward fostering awareness and empowering voter’s choices that reflect their aspirations for the greater good.
