Why Is the By-Election Not Announced on the Milkipur Seat?

The Election Commission announced the dates for the assembly elections of Maharashtra and Jharkhand in a press conference on Tuesday. Along with this, the dates for by-elections on 48 assembly seats and 2 Lok Sabha seats in different states of the country were also fixed. However, out of the 10 seats to be held in Uttar Pradesh, dates were announced for only 9 seats, while the date for the by-election on the Milkipur assembly seat of Ayodhya was not announced.

Reason behind the By-Election not announced on the Milkipur

Reason for not holding by-election Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar shared all the information related to the election in the press conference. On the question of not announcing the date of by-election on Milkipur seat, he said that the seats on which the by-election was not announced are pending in the court. By-elections will be held on 9 seats of Uttar Pradesh on November 13.

Why is Milkipur assembly seat vacant?

The first MLA on Milkipur seat was Awadhesh Prasad, who was made a candidate by the Samajwadi Party from Faizabad Lok Sabha seat. After winning the Lok Sabha elections, he left the Milkipur assembly seat, due to which this seat is vacant.

By-elections will be held on these 9 seats

The 9 seats in Uttar Pradesh where by-elections will be held include Sisamau in Kanpur, Phulpur in Prayagraj, Karhal in Mainpuri, Majhawan in Mirzapur, Katehari in Ambedkarnagar, Ghaziabad Sadar, Khair in Aligarh, Kundarki in Moradabad and Meerapur in Muzaffarnagar.

Election Commission's statement on EVM

On questions related to EVM, the Election Commission said that there is no tampering in EVM and it is completely safe. The EVM battery will have the signature of the polling agent and it will be kept under three levels of security. Single-use battery is used in EVM, which is not like the mobile battery.
