Vigilance Bureau arrests Patwari taking Rs 5,500 bribe for mutation of land

Chandigarh - The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its on-going campaign against corruption in the state, has apprehended a revenue Patwari Joginder Singh, posted at revenue halqa Datewas, tehsil Budhladha in Mansa district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500.


Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned Patwari has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Gurchand Singh, a resident of village Rangharial in Mansa.


He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and recoded his statement that the said Patwari had already taken Rs. 12,000 as a bribe from him and other shareholders during division of a joint land and for execution of its demarcation. Now the accused Patwari has demanded Rs. 10,000 for mutation of this land but the deal has been struck at Rs 6,000 and he has already taken Rs 1000 in advance.


The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary verification of this complaint the VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed accepting Rs 5,500 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.


He added that in this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Bathinda range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation was under progress, he said.
