Vigilance Bureau Arrests 15 Officials, 5 Private Persons in 14 Bribery Cases During July

Chandigarh, August 19, 2024: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has apprehended 15 employees and 5 private persons red-handed while accepting bribes in 14 different trap cases during July, as part of its ongoing crusade against corruption in the state.

According to an official spokesperson, the VB has made significant efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the period. The Bureau submitted challans pertaining to 8 vigilance cases in various competent courts last month.

Additionally, 7 vigilance enquiries were registered to thoroughly probe corruption cases against public servants. The spokesperson also mentioned that 9 criminal cases were registered against 19 accused, including 13 government employees.

In a notable conviction, the Jalandhar court decided a bribery case filed and contested by the Bureau, sentencing Sandeep Mittar, Junior Assistant at Improvement Trust Jalandhar, to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000.
