Uproar in Rajya Sabha: Opposition to move no-confidence motion against Chairman Dhankhar

Monday was the 10th day of the ongoing winter session of Parliament. Today too, there was a lot of uproar in both houses of Parliament on various issues including Bangladesh violence. Today the opposition INDIA Block is preparing to bring a no-confidence motion to remove Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The opposition alliance has united against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) are also said to be in favor of the no-confidence motion.

TMC and SP MPs, who have been seen far away from the INDIA Block protests for the last few days, have also signed the no-confidence motion. According to the information, the opposition parties can bring a no-confidence motion against the Chairman in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. It is said that the no-confidence motion is ready and 70 members have also signed it.

It is said that in view of the stance of Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar during the uproar on the issue of George Soros in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, the Congress is preparing to bring a no-confidence motion against him. The way the uproar took place in the Rajya Sabha on the issue related to George Soros on Monday, the members of Congress and other opposition parties are said to be angry with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Even during the uproar in the House, Congress MPs from Digvijay Singh to Rajiv Shukla accused the Chairman of bias and questioned under which rule he had started the discussion. Opposition members also objected to the fact that the Chairman was taking names of BJP members and asking them to speak.

It is worth noting that the proposal to remove the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha requires the signatures of 50 members. 70 members have signed the proposal against Chairman Dhankhar. There was also a discussion of bringing a proposal to remove the Chairman from the opposition during the last monsoon session of Parliament, but then the opposition put it on hold.

What is the procedure for removing the Rajya Sabha Chairman?

To remove the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, a proposal with the signatures of at least 50 members has to be sent to the Secretariat. After this notice is given at least 14 days in advance, after the proposal is passed based on the majority of the members present in the Rajya Sabha, it has to be sent to the Lok Sabha. The Chairman is also the Vice President of the country, which is the second highest constitutional post. In such a situation, to remove him from the post, this proposal must be also passed by the Lok Sabha. Let us tell you that the winter session is to run till December 20 only.

What did the Chairman say in the House?

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said amid the uproar before adjourning the proceedings of the House for the day that our commitment towards nationalism should be 100 percent. He said that he held a meeting with the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition in his chamber in which many other floor leaders were also present. The unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country are supreme for us. We cannot allow any force, within or outside, to play with our unity, integrity and sovereignty.
