Tamil Nadu government's big decision: Rupee symbol replaces in Tamil language in state budget

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has taken a big decision amid the language dispute with the Centre. The Tamil Nadu government has changed the symbol of '₹' from the state budget to the Tamil language. The state government replaced the '₹' symbol with 'ரூ' symbol in the 2025-26 budget. This is the letter 'Ru' in the Tamil script. This is probably the first time a state has removed the national currency symbol.

Let us tell you that the Budget 2025-26 will be presented in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on March 14. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has released a video, which shows the logo of the 2025-26 budget. In this logo, the 'ரூ' symbol is seen instead of the '₹' symbol.

BJP has condemned this decision of the Tamil Nadu government. The BJP spokesperson said that MK Stalin's party reflects its stance of separation from India. BJP leader Narayanan Tirupati said that the rupee symbol is widely recognized as a symbol of India.

BJP state president Annamalai has criticized this decision of the state government. At the same time, he has described this decision of the Stalin government as a foolish move. He said that a Tamil and son of a former DMK MLA had designed the rupee symbol.

The BJP state president said that the DMK government's state budget for 2025-26 replaces the rupee symbol designed by a Tamil, which was adopted by the whole of India and included in our currency. Thiru Udaya Kumar, who designed the rupee symbol, is the son of a former DMK MLA.

The Centre has stopped Rs 573 crore in central education assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) after Tamil Nadu refused to implement key aspects of the National Education Policy 2020, especially the three-language formula.

CM Stalin is constantly accusing the central government of imposing Hindi. He had earlier said that demanding linguistic equality was not chauvinism. He had alleged that some people wanted to put Hindi above other languages and were trying to force it on non-Hindi-speaking states.
